Westwood Athletes of the Year

Westwood Athletes of the Year

The banner-lined walls of the Westwood High gymnasium have seen their fair share of legends, but the class of 2026 just carved two more names into the bedrock of the school's athletic history.

This year, the standard for excellence wasn't just met—it was completely rewritten. Westwood proudly honors its Athletes of the Year: basketball phenom Sumner Holland and swimming icon NamAnh Truong.

The General of the Hardwood: Sumner Holland

If leadership had a blueprint, it would look exactly like Sumner Holland's four years on the Westwood varsity court. As the starting point guard, Sumner didn't just run the offense; he dictated the tempo of every game he touched.

Over his illustrious career, Sumner guided the Warriors to a staggering 62-7 record as a starter. But it was his senior campaign that turned a great career into an unforgettable legacy. Facing one of the toughest schedules in the region, Sumner anchored a squad that refused to blink.

The pinnacle of the season came during a ruthless run through league play. Under Sumner's steady hand and lethal court vision, the Warriors went an undefeated 16-0 to capture the District Championship. Whether hitting a clutch floating jumper, diving for a loose ball, or throwing a no-look pass to ignite the crowd, Sumner proved that a true point guard's value isn't just measured in points—it's measured in wins.

"Sumner didn't just win games; he took the entire team's expectations and elevated them," said his coaching staff. "A 16-0 district run doesn't happen by accident. It happens because your leader refuses to let anyone give less than 100%."

The Queen of the Pool: NamAnh Truong

While Sumner was commanding the hardwood, NamAnh Truong was busy rewriting the record books in the water, cementing her status as one of the greatest swimmers to ever wear the Westwood cap.

To watch NamAnh swim was to watch a masterclass in technique, power, and sheer determination. Throughout her high school career, she didn't just win races; she dominated them. From the explosive sprints to the grueling turns of the relay anchors, NamAnh was Westwood's ultimate weapon in the pool.

Her legacy isn't just defined by the medals around her neck, but by the standards she set for everyone who follows her. She pushed through grueling 5:00 AM practices, shattered school records, and consistently delivered her best performances on the biggest state stages. NamAnh didn't just compete against the clock; she chased perfection—and more often than not, she caught it.

A Legacy Sealed in Gold

As the Class of 2026 prepares to walk across the graduation stage, the impact of Sumner Holland and NamAnh Truong will be felt long after the lockers are cleared.

One dominated the court with a ball in his hand; the other dominated the lane with ice in her veins. Different sports, different arenas, but the exact same DNA of a champion. Congratulations to Sumner and NamAnh—Westwood's Icons of 2026.
