STATE BOUND

STATE BOUND

The sun was out, the courts were fast, and the Westwood Warriors were—as they say—simply built different.

This past weekend, the atmosphere at the Region IV Tennis Championships in San Antonio was electric, but if you looked at the Westwood side of the bracket, it was more like a clinic. When the dust settled on the hardcourts, the Warriors hadn't just competed; they had staged a "dominating fashion" takeover, punching tickets for eight athletes to return to the Alamo City for the State tournament this May.

Mixed Doubles: A Podium Sweep

The Mixed Doubles draw felt like a Westwood intrasquad scrimmage by the time the final rounds rolled around. Kishan Anusuri and Isa Sthormes were a force of nature, gliding through the bracket to claim the title of Regional Champions. Their chemistry on the court was unmatched, finding gaps and closing out points with the clinical precision Westwood is known for.

Joining them on the podium were Charan Kodakandla and Jiya Guleria, who battled their way to a hard-fought 3rd Place finish. Having two pairs place so high speaks volumes about the depth of the Warriors' roster.

Girls Doubles: The Gold Standard

On the girls' side, the duo of Janya Tellabati and Lily Wang left no doubt about who owned the court. They moved through the tournament with a rhythmic intensity, dismantling opponents to be crowned Regional Champions. For Janya and Lily, the win wasn't just about the trophy—it was a statement of intent as they look toward the state's biggest stage.

Boys Doubles: Grinding to Bronze

Not to be outdone, Aayush Parikh and Ethan Wang showcased incredible resilience in the Boys Doubles division. In a bracket filled with heavy hitters, the pair held their nerve in the pressure moments to secure 3rd Place, ensuring the boys' side would be well-represented in the next round.

The Road to State

With eight kids qualified, the Warriors have officially put the rest of Texas on notice. The energy is high, the momentum is undeniable, and the mission is clear.

"We came, we saw, we dominated. Now, we prepare for May."

The team will be heading back to San Antonio in just a few weeks to chase state glory. For now, take a second to celebrate the hard work and the hardware.
