Bio
Chris Hellums took over as the Head Boys Soccer Coach at Westwood for the 2022-23 season after an 8-year tenure at Navarro High School in Austin ISD. Hellums graduated from Westwood and played Varsity basketball for Coach Dennis Burton. He went on to earn a B.A. in Economics from Rice University and a Master’s in Education from the University of Texas.
While at Navarro his teams became perennial contenders, qualifying for playoffs in four straight seasons from 2017-2020 and earning the school’s only team sports playoff victory of the past decade. He was recognized as District Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2019.
In his first season at Westwood, the team won the district championship in 2023, and he was recognized again as District Coach of the Year. The Warriors qualified for playoffs again in 2025, finishing 3rd in District. He holds a US Soccer Federation B License and United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma. Coach Hellums also has experience coaching club soccer at Liverpool, FC Westlake, and Town and Country.
Coach Hellums enjoys spending his time away from coaching and teaching with his partner, Sadia and their two children Yara and Rami. They enjoy traveling and visiting with Sadia's family in England. He supports Austin FC as a season ticket holder and rarely misses a Liverpool Football Club match on television.
