Warrior Baseball Players on Statesman Watch List
Texas high school baseball: 60 Austin-area players to watch this season
The Austin-area high school baseball season starts Tuesday with teams kicking off nondistrict and tournament play before district schedules start at varying points in March.
In what should be another intriguing year on the diamond for local teams, the Statesman looks at 60 Central Texas players who are worth watching this spring.
These student-athletes span from sophomores to seniors, cover all spots on the field and are from a range of schools from all over the Austin area. All of these players have a goal to still be playing in May when the playoffs begin, with UIL schools splitting into postseason divisions for the first time.
Grant Boren, Westwood: Part of a strong sophomore class across Central Texas, he hit .319 with three doubles and 14 RBIs a year ago. Can pitch and play anywhere on the infield, including catcher.
Justice Moore, Westwood: The junior first baseman/designated hitter will play a key role for a young Warriors team. Hit .289 with five doubles, a home run and 14 RBIs.
